Narwhal Greenland Paddle

A Hybrid Greenland Paddle Built for the Open Sea

The Narwhal is where traditional Greenland paddle design meets modern composite engineering. Designed for sea kayakers who want the low-angle efficiency and wrist-friendly cadence of a Greenland blade — without sacrificing durability or feel — the Narwhal delivers a paddle that works with you across long crossings, tidal races, and everything in between.

Blade Shape & Feel

The Narwhal's blade follows classic Greenland geometry: narrow, elongated, and shoulderless, with a smooth fluent transition from shaft to blade. At 780 cm² of blade surface, it generates a soft, progressive catch that reduces joint strain on multi-day tours. The shoulderless straight shaft means your hands can slide freely along the loom — a technique central to Greenland rolling and low-brace recovery strokes. The Aeroglass Fiber construction gives the blade a lively, slightly flexible feel that absorbs shock on the catch and returns energy through the exit.

Construction & Weight

The blades are built from Aeroglass Fiber over an Etha-lite Foam Core — a combination that makes the Narwhal exceptionally buoyant in the water. The foam core keeps the blade from sinking between strokes, reducing fatigue and making sculling and rolling support strokes feel effortless. A Hydrophobic Nano Coating sheds water cleanly off the blade face, and replaceable ABS-PC rock tips protect the tips from beach landings and rocky put-ins. Total weight: 832 g at 220 cm.

Length & Sizing

Available in 220 cm, the Narwhal suits paddlers of average to tall height (roughly 170–190 cm) using a low-angle Greenland stroke. If you're unsure, a good starting point is to stand with your arm raised — the paddle tip should reach your wrist. The 29 mm shaft diameter fits most hand sizes comfortably, and the Phantom Push Connection system allows quick, tool-free feathering adjustment between strokes.

Intended Use

The Narwhal is at home on sea kayaking expeditions, coastal touring, and Greenland-style rolling practice. Its shoulderless loom makes it ideal for paddlers learning or refining traditional Greenland technique — layback rolls, storm rolls, and sculling braces all benefit from the ability to slide your grip freely. It also excels as a touring paddle for paddlers who prefer a relaxed, low-cadence stroke over long distances.

★★★★★

Just phenomenal — absolutely my favourite paddle I've ever used. At the risk of sounding a bit corny, it's an absolute joy to use. It's incredibly lightweight and very precise in the water; it cuts incredibly cleanly and is ideal for very long days. They've truly changed my relationship with the water.

FAQs

Segla gear materials are incredibly light, does that mean it's fragile?

The weight comes from the materials and engineering, not from cutting corners. Toray carbon fiber, Kevlar-reinforced edges, and an Etha-lite foam core make these paddles exceptionally light AND strong enough for all paddling conditions.

What's the difference between a Greenland paddle and a regular paddle?

A Greenland paddle has a long, narrow blade that enters the water gradually and quietly. There's no sudden resistance, the load builds progressively with every stroke. Most paddlers feel less shoulder and wrist fatigue within the first hour, especially on longer trips.

How do I know which length is right for me?

It depends on your height and your kayak's width. As a general rule: wider boat = longer paddle. For Greenland paddles, most paddlers find their fit between 220–225cm. Our Euroblade Carbon K-Pro models come in two adjustable ranges,  208–218cm and 214–224cm, covering virtually every paddler.

Is there a dealer near me where I can try one?

We are actively building our dealer and test center network across the globe. In the meantime, check our website for the nearest test center, or contact us directly. If there's nothing near you yet, that's a gap we want to fix.
