Zyren Paddle

Length Range and Weight 196 – 206 cm | 844 g

Blade shape and feel

The Zyren runs the widest blade in the Segla Gear lineup at 710 cm², measuring 44.5 cm × 20.8 cm. This broad, powerful profile is optimised for an aggressive, high-angle catch , the kind of stroke you need when you're punching through surf, bracing in breaking water, or accelerating hard out of an eddy. The blade loads immediately and powerfully, with the Toray T700 6K+3K Hybrid Weave providing a stiff, high-impact-resistant layup that holds its shape under load. The Etha-lite Foam Core keeps the blade buoyant and responsive for support strokes and braces, and the Hydrophobic Nano Coating sheds water cleanly on every exit. The Nano-Coated Ergonomic Grip on the straight shaft gives you a firm, confident hold in turbulent conditions.

Construction and weight

The Zyren's blades are built from Toray T700 Carbon Fiber in a 6K+3K Hybrid Weave , a layup that prioritises impact resistance alongside stiffness, making it well-suited to the rock strikes, paddle slaps, and high-force bracing that come with surf and whitewater use. The Full Kevlar Strap Edge reinforces the blade perimeter, and the 4 mm Reinforced Blade Tip adds extra protection at the most vulnerable point. The Smart-View Adjustable feathering system allows quick angle changes on the water. Weight: 844 g (196–206 cm) and 864 g (206–216 cm).

Length and sizing

Available in 196–206 cm (844 g) and 206–216 cm (864 g) — shorter than most touring paddles, which suits the high-angle, close-to-hull stroke used in surf and whitewater. The shorter length gives you faster blade recovery and more control in dynamic water. Most paddlers in surf or whitewater will find the 196–206 cm range ideal; the 206–216 cm suits taller paddlers or those using the Zyren in sea kayaking contexts where a slightly longer reach is preferred. The 29 mm shaft diameter suits most hand sizes.

Intended use

The Zyren is built for surf kayaking, whitewater, and technical sea kayaking in demanding conditions. Its wide blade and reinforced construction make it the right tool when you need maximum power for a single stroke, a brace in breaking surf, a ferry across fast current, or a sprint to clear a rock. It also suits sea kayakers who paddle exposed coastlines and want a blade that can handle whatever the conditions throw at it.

Who it suits

  • Surf kayakers who need a wide, powerful blade for launching, bracing, and riding waves
  • Whitewater paddlers wanting a durable carbon blade that handles high-impact use
  • Technical sea kayakers on exposed coastlines, tidal races, and rock gardens
  • Paddlers who prioritise power and durability over low weight in demanding environments

★★★★★

Just phenomenal — absolutely my favourite paddle I've ever used. At the risk of sounding a bit corny, it's an absolute joy to use. It's incredibly lightweight and very precise in the water; it cuts incredibly cleanly and is ideal for very long days. They've truly changed my relationship with the water.

FAQs

Segla gear materials are incredibly light, does that mean it's fragile?

The weight comes from the materials and engineering, not from cutting corners. Toray carbon fiber, Kevlar-reinforced edges, and an Etha-lite foam core make these paddles exceptionally light AND strong enough for all paddling conditions.

What's the difference between a Greenland paddle and a regular paddle?

A Greenland paddle has a long, narrow blade that enters the water gradually and quietly. There's no sudden resistance, the load builds progressively with every stroke. Most paddlers feel less shoulder and wrist fatigue within the first hour, especially on longer trips.

How do I know which length is right for me?

It depends on your height and your kayak's width. As a general rule: wider boat = longer paddle. For Greenland paddles, most paddlers find their fit between 220–225cm. Our Euroblade Carbon K-Pro models come in two adjustable ranges, 208–218cm and 214–224cm, covering virtually every paddler.

Is there a dealer near me where I can try one?

We are actively building our dealer and test center network across the globe. In the meantime, check our website for the nearest test center, or contact us directly. If there's nothing near you yet, that's a gap we want to fix.
